Requirements

  • Employment by, or remote work for, a foreign company (or own company not registered in Montenegro)
  • Income not sourced from Montenegrin employers/clients
  • Valid travel document/ID (valid at least 3 months beyond the permit)
  • Proof of financial means
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Employment contract or proof of remote work for a foreign/non-registered company
  • Criminal-record clearance (no unconditional sentence over 6 months)
  • Photograph + biometric data (taken at submission)

Process Steps

    Gather documents

    Collect documents and complete the prescribed form (Montenegrin/English).

    Apply in person

    Apply at the regional MUP office in your municipality of residence.

    Biometrics

    Provide biometric data at submission.

    Stay during processing

    You may remain in Montenegro during processing if you applied before your 90-day visa-free stay expired.

    Decision

    Decision within 40 days. Renew at least 30 days before expiry; a new permit only after 6 months once expired.
