Naturalisation by Years of Residence (Form M127)
Acquisition of Cypriot citizenship by naturalisation based on lawful residence, under the Civil Registry Law as amended in 2023 (in force 19 December 2023).
- Processing time
- Fast-track (highly skilled workers): maximum 8 months by statutory obligation under the March 2024 law amendment. Standard route: no statutory cap; significant backlogs reported in practice.
- Language requirement
- Standard route: Greek at B1 level. Fast-track option A: Greek at B1 level (3-year residence). Fast-track option B: Greek at A2 level (4-year residence).
- Citizenship
- Standard route: 7 years of cumulative lawful residence within the preceding 10 years, plus 12 months of continuous residence immediately before application. Fast-track for highly skilled workers (employed in a qualifying company): either 3 years of cumulative legal residence within the preceding 10 years with Greek language at B1 level, OR 4 years of cumulative legal residence with Greek language at A2 level, plus 12 months continuous residence immediately before application and a minimum monthly salary of EUR 2,500.
Requirements
- Cumulative lawful residence of at least 7 years within the preceding 10 years (standard route).
- Continuous legal residence for the 12 months immediately before application (absences not exceeding 90 days do not interrupt).
- Good character.
- Sufficient knowledge of Greek (B1 standard; A2 accepted for the 5-year highly-skilled route).
- Knowledge of the basic elements of Cyprus' contemporary political and social reality.
- Suitable accommodation and stable, regular financial resources.
