Self-employment visa and residence permit (lavoro autonomo)
The self-employment (lavoro autonomo) visa for Italy requires entry through the annual Decreto Flussi quota system. The DPCM of 2 October 2025 allocates 650 quota places for self-employment for 2026 (out of a total 164,850 entries), making this one of the smallest and most competitive quota categories. Eligible categories include: entrepreneurs with an investment plan of at least €500,000 and creation of at least three new jobs; licensed professionals represented by national associations; holders of corporate administrative and control positions; and freelancers in innovative activities.
