Permanent residence permit
A permanent residence permit grants the right to live and work in Sweden indefinitely. Applicants must have lived in Sweden with a residence permit for a qualifying period and meet special requirements relating to self-support and good conduct.

- No language requirement for permanent residence itself (separate from citizenship).

- Permanent residence supports later citizenship; new citizenship rules apply from 6 June 2026.
