Work / Employment in Monaco

One documented route of this kind in Monaco, with its conditions, documents, official government fees and process.

Work Permit (Permis de travail) and Employee Residence

The work permit application requires a €5 stamp duty (paid to the Employment Office as part of the recruitment authorisation). The linked Temporaire residence permit (first issuance) carries a separate €80 fee. These are two distinct fees in a two-step process: (1) employer files the recruitment authorisation with a €5 stamp duty; (2) once the work permit is issued, the employee applies for the Temporaire residence permit at €80.

Processing time
Typically ~2–6 weeks (practitioner estimate; not an official published SLA). Only the 4-day priority window is an official statutory timeframe.
Validity
Tied to the specific employer and role; linked residence permit initially valid 1 year (Temporaire).
Language requirement
No formal test for the work permit itself; foreign documents must be translated into French.
Permanent residence
Privilégié (long-term) permit available after 10 years' residence (reducible to 1 year in special cases).
Citizenship
Naturalisation possible after 10 years' ordinary residence after age 18, but wholly discretionary.
