Work permit for employees
Residence and work permit for non-EU/EEA nationals with a job offer from a Swedish employer. From 1 June 2026 the salary must be at least 90% of the Swedish median salary (minimum SEK 33,390/month), and terms must match Swedish collective agreements or industry practice.
- Processing time
- 75% of complete applications decided within set service times; incomplete applications take longer.
- Validity
- Up to 2 years initially, then extendable.
- Language requirement
- No language requirement for the work permit itself.
- Permanent residence
- Eligible to apply for permanent residence after holding a work permit for a qualifying period (generally 4 years of the last 7).
- Citizenship
- Generally after qualifying residence; new citizenship rules apply from 6 June 2026.

- Employment terms on par with Swedish collective agreements or industry practice
- Employer must provide health, life, occupational injury, and pension insurance by the time the job starts

Receive job offer
The Swedish employer initiates the offer of employment and arranges the required insurances.

Submit the work permit application via the Migrationsverket online service and pay the fee.
